Thank you so much for this information Ashlee! I’m currently trying to save up some extra money to move and buy my first house. I worked retail for over 20 years and I REALLY didn’t want to have to go back into that area part-time along with my full-time job!! I’m really interested in the Rev transcription job – I think I’ll give it a deeper look tonight after work!
Freelance writing has completely changed our lives. For years, we worked great jobs in a funeral home. However, those jobs also demanded tons of time and exceptional amounts of emotional energy. We found ourselves working nights, weekends, and holidays – getting called out at all hours of the night and missing countless family events. These were good jobs, but they grew tiring.
More than ever, writers are needed to formulate news articles, create content, and come up with the creative ideas that fill the pages of nearly every site on the Internet. And although many bigger sites have in-house writers, a growing number of sites outsource their content and hire freelance writers and content creators. Writing experience is very helpful, but what you really need to get started are drive, ambition, and the ability to find a unique angle on events that happen every day.

Very helpful article. I am searching for legitimate work from home jobs with flexibility. I have a full time job with the state and I am looking to increase my income. I can do couple hours in evenings a few hours on weekends. I know my way somewhat around the computer. I have health benefits so that is not a big issue to me. I live in Alabama what do you suggest that would be flexible.

I appreciate the idea behind this, but I’d like more information on where these jobs can be found. I am a writer and would like to do freelance writing work, but while you mentioned that there are such jobs available, there wasn’t much to say where to find those jobs. I’ve tried to seek them out before, and done writing for places where I got paid (usually not very well), but many of those have dried up or weren’t much to begin with. Are there suggested places to go to do some freelance writing? I’d love to ditch my poorly-paying job, where I have to spend a lot of time away from my family, and do something I actually enjoy doing. Thanks.
They give you 12 hours to transcribe one hour of audio not accounting for number of speakers, quality of audio, etc. This is all right if it is only an hour or so. However, if it is a three hour audio file you only have 36 hours to transcribe it. They don’t account for time to sleep or rest with the longer files. I did contact them about this and got no response.

When I started to work from home, I missed talking to people. A lot. But I soon found a friend. Every day, I would hear the UPS guy gunning his motor as he drove down my long driveway to deliver my packages. As soon as I would spot him, I’d fly out of the house and chat him up. And now he leaves the packages by the curb. Sure, the one big bonus of working from home is that it gets you away from the petty office politics and never-ending gossip.

Closed captioners add captions or subtitles to live and pre-recorded audio. They transcribe the words as spoken. To become a closed captioner you must be able to type fast and accurately. Phony job listings on legit job-hunting websites. One fraudulent group was listing fake jobs on CareerBuilder, which is an otherwise respectable site. The group was charging a big fee for a background check before consideration of any applicants. Federal, state and local authorities received more than 17,000 complaints filed by people who were ripped off by this particular group. And that’s just the number of people who found their way to complain. Who knows how many others were taken?
